Attention West Vancouver.
West Vancouver is stepping up!
On Jnauary 28th, West Van Council voted unanimously to formally ask the province to repeal the school tax surcharge.
Thompson noted the school tax encroaches on the municipality’s tax base while council is struggling to keep local tax increases down, that the tax is inequitable and that it is “just wrong.”
“This is an asset tax. It’s not based on people’s ability to pay..."
Councillor Soprovich called it, "Absolutely outrageous. I just can’t believe we are put to this degree of a money grab.”
You will enjoy listening to the full Council discussion - reasoned debate on an important issue!
West Van - it’s time for you to join the fight!
The district estimates that West Vancouverites will collectively pay an additional $29.8 million in taxes this year. However, it was originally estimated that the West Vancouver school tax would generate $50M for provincial general revenue. This $20M in reduced tax is the result of a $5 Billion decline in West Vancouver assessed residential property value!
This massive decline in homeowner value is an unprecedented attack on wealth!
We are building momentum! With your support, STEPUP will continue to fight for taxpayers against this surcharge.
Over 500 people rallied in West Van last June. We hear you, and we support you. We are all in this together.
PS: Let's see how many new STEPUP supporters we can gain in West Van this week!
