Tenants face 4.5% rent increase — biggest hike since 2004
That’s the largest allowable rent increase since 2004, when the maximum increase was 4.6 per cent. The B.C. Residential Tenancy Branch set the maximum increase at 4.0 per cent for 2018.
Landlords have long been allowed to add two per cent to the inflation rate, which was calculated at 2.5 per cent at the end of July, for a total allowable increase of 4.5 per cent in 2019.
