Stop BC Speculation Tax
Canada outside of BC, Canada
Aug 9, 2018 —
In February, the BC NDP government introduced the Speculation Tax and it has already had drastic effects in the local economies targeted across the province.
It was sold as a way to curb speculation in British Columbia’s real estate market, claiming the tax would keep foreigners and speculators from buying homes in our communities. However, it fails to address
speculation in any serious way and instead slowing down the construction industry, forcing developments to stop, and putting hard-working tradespeople out of work.
You signed the “Stop The Speculation Tax” petition because you know how damaging it will be, not just to our local economies but also to our reputation as a province. Labelling fellow Canadians from other
provinces as “foreigners” does not reflect our values.
As the MLA for Kelowna-West, I tabled a petition with your name on it in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia back in April. Unfortunately, as our province does not accept digital signatures, the petition was ruled out of order.
For the upcoming fall session of the Legislature in October, I intend once again to stand up for British Columbians and table a formal petition demanding Premier John Horgan and the NDP government repeal
the Speculation Tax. I hope that I can count on your support, and your signature.
In the meantime, please write Premier and Finance Minister over the summer with your concerns. You can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com or send them letters to the following:
Premier John Horgan
West Annex, BC Legislative Assembly
Minister Carole James
Room 153, BC Legislative Assembly
If you would like me to forward your letters and stories on to your local MLA, please include me in the email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for your support as we continue to fight to repeal the Speculation Tax.
