When proportional-representation advocates tell you that the current system isn’t working, what they’re really telling you is that it isn’t working for them.
What they want is a system where the views that haven’t been able consistently to win elections should control the government agenda. They don’t want to tell you that they want to perpetuate a system where 11 or 12 per cent of the popular vote gets to hold the government hostage to their fringe agendas. They don’t want to tell you that they want to ensure that fiscal responsibility is no longer possible as governments will have to tax and spend their way into debt to provide all of the luxuries the minority voters demand.
I find it interesting to be told that when we supposedly live in one of the best places and best countries on earth, the system of government that got us there isn’t working. Seems like it’s works pretty well to me.
