Subject: NDP Surtax on Homes.

Mr. Weaver:

We as home owners are faced with a cash grab capital tax by the far left of the NDP party. It is really institutional theft of property from senior citizens and middle class who have already seen their taxes rise disproportionately from the rest of the city.

When I bought my home some 18 years ago the taxes were 6850 per year. Now they are 16,826 with a new level promised to be 27000 if Eby and the left of the NDP get their way.

My income has not gone up in this entire period. I am retired. Yet everyone thinks all on the west side are rich because our homes escalated in value. Well, as you know, we are already taxed on that increase in value disproportionately anyway.

I am writing you as I have always found you to be a balanced and thoughtful leader of the Greens. I greatly respect your intellect and your contribution to Science in Canada. I know that you are an honest and decent man.

There was great promise in this Minority government but the NDP appears to have again reverted to the dogma of expropriation through a capital tax on the middle class. But they rely on your support to make this happen to us.

I ask you to support us on this issue and block it for the sake of “ doing the right thing” for the retirees and middle class who have not sold their Homes. We need your leadership on this issue and it will be noticed by many BRitish Columbians, rather than allowing this to happen.

Premier Horgan must reign in Eby and frankly the only way to do this is for you to not support them in the House on this issue. If they don’t Have your support, they cannot approve this in the house.

Your leadership on this issue would be noticed and supported by all who are being affected.

If there was an election , I suspect this leadership by the greens would be rewarded in more seats. There will eventually be an election and I believe it would be many times better for the greens to be defending the rights of retirees and the middle class now and go mainstream on this issue. The alternative is to do nothing and be unfairly seen as NDP Green next election.

Best regards, thank you for all you do for BRITISH Columbians.
